URank toolbar can be downloaded from here. To install, just click on “Run” and then click on “Run” again. URank toolbar is automatically enabled at the end of the installation process. The browser toolbar includes a set of controls for performing a variety of activities. The most predominant control is the “rating dialog” used for achieving several ranking activities. By using the “rating dialog” you can: 1. Review the global rank derived from all the ratings that were granted to a website across the world. 2. Rate a website. 3. See your earlier rate for a website. Note that each of these activities is available in an “aspect resolution” meaning that you can manipulate the website rank for each of the available aspects separately. The aspects are: 1. General rank – used to express user’s general satisfaction. 2. Reliability – used for marking how reliable the website is. 3. Look & Feel – a rating for the website look and feel. which means the website's 'look'. 4. Ad Free – a high rate (5 stars) means the website is free of disturbing advertisements. a low rate (1 star) means the website has them all over it. 5. Free Content – does the website suggest content available for free? 6. Children Safe – the website is free of adult content. 7. Malware Safe – the website is a virus/malware free. On the side of each aspect you can see a special “voting” control consisting of 5 stars. The stars may appear in 4 different colors: white, yellow, blue and green. The white stars designate “no activity”. The yellow stars give you the global rank as a function of ranks given by people across the world. The blue stars designate your own decisions. The green stars are only an auxiliary tool helping you to add your ranks – move your mouse over a star and once it becomes green it’s ready to receive your mouse click for fixing the rank. In addition, by staying on each line of start you can see a tooltip with a legend for what you see.
One more activity available on URank toolbar is categorization – you can get a quick orientation regarding a website if it is attributed it to a specific category. While visiting an arbitrary website it would be very helpful to ask earlier visitors what is the website about. For example, while visiting Google you would expect that about 100% of earlier visitors categorized it as a “Search Engine” and Facebook is reasonably expected to be categorized as a “Social Site”. The available categories are: 1. Entertainment 2. News 3. Social Site 4. Game Site 5. Information 6. Shopping 7. Service Site 8. Search Engine |
